Fashion: Stars turn to Yorkshire designer for the wow factor Ruth in her red Kevan Jon gown with Chizzy Askudolu, Shirley Ballas, Tess Daly, and Mollie King at the National Television Awards 2018 held at the O2 Arena, London. Ian West/PA Wire Published: 13:36 Wednesday 24 January 2018 0 HAVE YOUR SAY Head for Halifax if you want to turn heads on the red carpet, writes Stephanie Smith, as Ruth Langsford wears a stunning creation by Kevan Jon to the NTA awards. TV presenter Ruth Langsford was one of three celebrities who made sure they dressed to impress at last night’s National Television Awards by stepping out in gowns created by Halifax designer Kevan Jon. Ruth Langsford at the National Television Awards 2018 on the red carpet: Ian West/PA Wire Ruth showed off Kevan’s striking, red, off-the-shoulder, floor-sweeping gown when she stepped onto the stage not once but twice, collecting gongs for both This Morning and Strictly Come Dancing, in which she starred last year. Her look was voted one of the top four of the night by today’s ITV Lorraine show. Kevan told the Yorkshire Post it was the first time that he had dressed the presenter, whose stylist had approached him with a particular dress in mind. “One of out stockists had the dress that she was looking for. She tried it and loved it. The colour suited her, the style suited her. It’s one of our best-selling classic dresses. We’ve actually dressed brides in that dress in cream. A local girl from Huddersfield had it in ice pink for her wedding last November. “It suits women, as in shapely women, and it suits a whole range of ages.” The dress in question is the Kyoto Ball Dress, £345, and it is available online from stockists at Kevanjon.com. In Yorkshire, Kevan Jon’s collection is stocked at Accent in Leeds and Chique near Doncaster.

Melania Trump wore

Melania Trump wore a $7,300 Erdem dress on New Year’s Eve—and you can now buy it on sale
The dress, which is now discounted by 60%, was worn by the FLOTUS on New Year’s Eve.
President Donald Trump spent New Year’s Eve hosting a gala at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida with his wife Melania Trump and son Barron. For the occasion, the First Lady wore Erdem’s ‘Emery’ dress, sans blue silk belt, from the label’s Pre-Fall 2017 collection. Inspired by the silhouettes of the 40s, the midi-length, high-collar, short-sleeve dress fits the bill for a sparkling NYE look. It is embroidered with shimmering pink paillettes and beaded floral arrangements.
The original retail price of the dress was $7,312.30. Sold out on the designer’s own website, it is still available in a size 14 on Browns at a reduced price of $2,924.92, or 60% off. We wonder whether the FLOTUS managed to score it on sale.

4 Bachelorette

4 Bachelorette Party Gifts That Won’t Embarrass the Bride-to-Be
There are few things more painful—at least sartorially speaking—than being forced to wear a tank top printed with the words “Team Bride” on the front. The suffering is further heightened by the fact that you must wear this shirt because it matches those worn by all 10 of the girls in a bachelorette party. Alas, there is a solution to combating the dreadful short shorts and T-shirts plastered with slogans like “Something borrowed, something blue, we party harder than you!”
While the cheesy route is good for a cheap laugh, there are plenty of bachelorette party gifts that won’t totally embarrass the bride or the bridesmaids. Matching outfits can be done in a low-key and cool way with a stylish one-piece bathing suit stamped with a simple moniker like “Bachelorette.” And choice bachelorette loot is by no means limited to clothing. There are also bags from EverybodyWorld, Polaroid cameras, and Bowie-inspired eye masks to spice up the party.

The 49th edition of Hong Kong Fashion

The 49th edition of Hong Kong Fashion Week for fall and winter opened its four-day run today and continues through Friday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
Some 1,400 exhibitors from 13 countries and regions have joined the fair which showcases the latest fashion designs, garments, fashion accessories, fabrics and clothing accessories.
The theme this year is "New-World Explorers.” There will also be five group pavilions representing the Chinese mainland, India, Indonesia, Japan and Pakistan
These well thought out features are the difference between boring and essential - the perfect little black dress can be worn a hundred times and never get old.
The same rule applies with your everyday staple pieces too, especially in summer.
"Basics are the pieces you always reach for in the wardrobe. They never go out of style,” Michael says.
"In summer, you don't want to over think or over complicate your look, and you don't want to be too precious about your garments either.
"So having good-quality basics allows you to dress up or down, mix and match, and layer effortlessly.”

Fashion and design hub takes shape

Fashion and design hub takes shape
A base for design and fashion will be created in Sham Shui Po by 2023 at the earliest, commerce chief Edward Yau Tang-wah announced yesterday.
The project received a mention in Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor's policy address. She pledged the government "will actively look into ways for young designers to make full use of the traditional base for apparel and fabrics in Sham Shui Po district to create new synergy."
Yau, secretary for commerce and economic development, said the project will have 4,300 square meters of gross floor area in a five-story commercial building on Tung Chau Street and will be run by the Hong Kong Design Center.

"We believe Hong Kong has a very good ecosystem for design as well as fashion, and particularly in Sham Shui Po," Yau said. "Sham Shui Po is a district with a long history of trading in apparel, fabrics and garment-related accessories. To date, it remains an active wholesale and retail hub for those trades."
Yau said with hundreds of small and medium-sized wholesale trading enterprises and retail outlets for fabrics and related accessories, Sham Shui Po has become one of the most favored places for fashion and design enthusiasts.
Facilities in the building will include a design gallery and fashion showcase, fashion production workshops, working as well as co-working areas, stage and seminar spaces, an incubation center, a design library as well as a material library.
"There will also be an open space where the public can go to look for fashion, look for items, as well as international visitors to use this as a tourist attraction," he said.
Yau said the proposal was approved by the URA board in December.
Yau said the government was working with the Tourism Board to promote the district.
Designers welcomed the proposal as it will provide a place for them to interact with other people in the industry.
Polly Ho Sin-hang, who has worked in the industry for more than 10 years, said the meeting space and fabric lab can allow small entrepreneurs like her to meet clients and find sourcing.
"It seems that they are going to let designers showcase their products on the ground floor," Ho said.

Jennifer Lopez Brings The Glam For a Family Courtside Outing

Jennifer Lopez Brings The Glam For a Family Courtside Outing
Jennifer Lopez isn't your average mom. To quote Mean Girls, she's a "cool mom." The singer proved that yesterday with her high-glam courtside style, where she and boyfriend Alex Rodriguez — dubbed "J-Rod" — brought their children to a Lakers vs. Charlotte Hornets game at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Lopez's 9-year-old twins Emme and Max were in attendance, while Rodriguez brought his daughters Natasha, 13, and Ella, 9. And no, Lopez didn't wear a thematic jersey or athleisure for the cutesy family outing — she, instead, showed up in an ensemble that only J.Lo herself could deem "casual" wear.
For the game, Lopez chose a baby blue knit sweater, fur vest, dark skinny jeans and nude platform pumps. She accessorized the look with her signature hoop earrings, mixed metallic bracelets, and a Louis Vuitton x Jeff Koons handbag. (Her killer off-duty style is no secret, though — just last week she was spotted wearing a statement sweater by Gucci while out shopping with Rodriguez.) Courtside fashion is becoming an increasingly crowded space, with stars like Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski each opting for sexy game looks. Are sports centres the new runway? Time will only tell who's next.

Bella Hadid Pulls Off This Surprisingly Tricky Shoe Trend

Bella Hadid Pulls Off This Surprisingly Tricky Shoe Trend
Is there any fashion trend that Bella Hadid can’t pull off? In the last year, we’ve seen her champion the red carpet thong, a statement coat as a standalone piece, and the pantless look with aplomb. In other words, you name it, she’s tried it. While Hadid and Kendall Jenner made the case for sticking to their signature style in twinning looks on New Year’s Eve, it seems Hadid is ready to switch things up. Last night, when she went for dinner at Nobu in Malibu, she traded her usual combat boots for a mid-calf, high-heeled version that only she could wear with such nonchalance.
What made the in-between height feel flattering was a slight dip at the front and a narrow toe that created the illusion of length. Hadid was smart to style her shoes with a LBD in a micro hem that made her mile-long legs look that much longer. Too many extras would have weighed things down. Instead, she took a light-handed approach to accessories: A dainty gold necklace and a matching bracelet lent her ensemble just a touch of shine. She kept Australian label I.Am.Gia’s teddy bear coat close in case the temperature dipped—and, at just $84, the outerwear was both price-conscious and seasonally appropriate.

NOMA debuts its first fashion exhibit Feb. 21

NOMA debuts its first fashion exhibit Feb. 21
"We were really excited about the opportunity to showcase couture in a way that emphasizes that fashion is art," says Margaux Krane, communications and marketing manager at NOMA.
Each "room" of the exhibit will house multimedia experiences of each of seven female archetypes: The Mother Earth, Sage, Magician, Enchantress, Explorer, Heroine and Thespian. Exhibit items will include gowns, capes and other apparel, photography and artworks that represent both the strengths and weaknesses of each archetype. Some of the works are easily recognizable, some are experimental and some are mind-boggling, including 3-D printed dresses by Iris van Herpen and swim and athletic wear designed via software that inputs custom measurements by Chromat.
"It's going to be an immersive world created through couture, accessories and dramatic lighting, emphasized by the organization of the installation itself," Krane says.
The current major exhibit at NOMA is East of the Mississippi: Nineteenth-Century American Landscape Photography. It closes Jan. 2, at which point the A Queen Within team will begin renovating the space to accommodate the equipment necessary for the new exhibit.
"It will look like a completely different room," Krane says. "They customize everything, down the colors on the walls. These spaces will feel completely different than they do now. I'm excited to see it — I am envisioning it, but when you actually see it, it's never what you think."
A Queen Within is not a traveling exhibit; the organizers (an international team of curators, collectors and designers) chose New Orleans specifically to display the collection. The exhibit is making its way to the Crescent City through collaboration with art consulting groups Barrett Barerra Projects and MUSEEA, and is sponsored in part by local art patrons Ashley Longshore and Millie Davis Kohn.
"I don't know how many other American cities or museums will get this exhibit," Krane says. "It's a big deal that we will have such a large collection of (Alexander) McQueen items. He's such an important designer, and to see that without having to travel is a gift."
