WNBA's Brittney Griner, Glory Johnson Pick a Wedding Dress

Off the court, WNBA star Brittney Griner celebrates her own unique sense of style. But it was her bride-to-be, fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson, who took the driver's seat when the pair went shopping for a gown that Johnson would wear down the aisle.
Johnson, 24, a forward with the WNBA's Tulsa Shock, and Griner, 24, a center for the three-time champion Phoenix Mercury, announced their engagement last August. Together they appear on TLC's Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, airing Jan. 30.
"Being on a court, I know exactly what I'm doing," Griner says on the show. "Being on a bridal floor, not so much!"
In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Griner adds: "I was nervous, but I knew at the end of the day we would have a dress. It also let me know how real things are – when I saw Glory in her dress I just couldn't keep the tears back."
The TLC series, currently in its eighth season, follows the emotional search by brides for their dream dress at Bridals by Lori in Atlanta. Johnson ultimately selected a full-length, strapless champagne design by Matthew Christopher, featuring silk chiffon and lace floral overlay with contouring bands and a small train.
"Dressing Glory was not as I had envisioned," salon owner Lori Allen tells PEOPLE. "I expected this fabulous athlete – who would not really want to look like a traditional bride. I'm thinking maybe a pants suit? Boy was I wrong."
"Ultimately Glory was very traditional and was only interested in pleasing Brittney – like most other brides," says Allen. "This is why I love bridal – it keeps you on your toes! In the end, Glory looked glorious."

Lupita Nyong'o's Scarlett O'Hara-Inspired Red Lip

Scarlett O'Hara-inspired makeup and Nina Simone-inspired hair don't seem like a beauty match made in heaven, but on Oscar winner and well, all-the-time fashion winner Lupita Nyong'o, the random references just worked.
The star hit the SAG red carpet in a plunging v-neck, multi-colored Elie Saab gown and her flawless skin beaming. But it was the crimson pout that pulled attention — the creation of her longtime makeup artist, Nick Barose.
"I wanted a bit of a Gone With The Wind feel, but modern, with glowing skin, glowing pink cheeks and red lips," says Barose. The red lip felt strong, but far from overdone, as Barose struck a balance between literal '40s glam and a warm wash of color.
Applying the lipstick directly from the tube for maximum intensity, Barose used Lancome’s Le Crayon Lip Contour ($25) in Garnet and L'Absolu Rouge Lipcolor ($30) in Caprice.
"Using the lipstick directly on the lips and not a lip brush will deposit the color best," says Barose, who chose the red color combo upon seeing the varying red tones in Nyong’o’s dress.
"I wanted the lips to be Gone With the Wind, but modern," he says. "So it didn’t look like costume makeup."

'Mom' jeans replace skinny jeans craze

Step aside skinny jeans, and make way for the "mom" jean.
High waisted, roomy around the bottom and reminiscent of the 90s, the mom jean has emerged as one of the most unlikely global fashion trends.
Once reserved for the cast of Friends and Beverly Hills 90210 and well, moms, the mom jean is having a major moment.
The comfy, retro bottoms have morphed into a fully-fledged street style phenomenon worn by the world's most stylish women everywhere from New York and Paris to Sydney and Melbourne.
"We are seeing major traction with the mom jean coming through the business," said General Pants design director Pip Edwards.
The resurgence of mom jeans is being driven by the trend for anonymous clothing over the latest "It" shoe or handbag, but ironically people at the pointiest end of fashion are now embracing the jeans.
"It's not about being flattering or showing how skinny you are, it's about showing how confident you are," said Edwards. "It's not the greatest silhouette, it's the coolest silhouette."
Beyoncé, Paris Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt and Taylor Swift are among the high profile women who have embraced the mom jean, with a surge in demand for the style prompting denim giant Levi's to revamp its classic 501 jeans.
"We noticed the 501 as a big street trend a while back…being worn by fashion bloggers and younger progressive tribes," said Levi's head of design Jonathan Cheung.
Cheung noticed many people were wearing vintage 501s from the 90s, but customising and tapering them on a sewing machine to give them a better fit.
"It was a simple conclusion to say 'why don't we do this for you'?" he said.
The result is a new style of jean called the 501 CT that offers an updated version of the iconic denims with a slightly roomier waist, less fabric in the seat and a tapered leg.
The range already is being been embraced by fashion leaders including actress Amber Heard, model Erin Wasson and Sydney model and fashion blogger Tanja Gacic, who said the new 501 CTs offered a welcome alternative to the skinny jeans that have been ubiquitous for years.
"Skinny jeans can be so much work – not just in the fitness department but in the wedgie department too," said Gacic.
Rollas, Neuw Denim and Nobody Denim are among the local brands that have recently introduced their own versions of the mom jean.
"The mom jean is a natural progression, a hybrid of the familiar high-waisted skinny and the (baggy) boyfriend jeans," said Nobody Denim designer Rebecca Mcquaid. "For many style icons it is a staple in their wardrobes."
But arguably the best thing about mom jeans is you don't have to be a style icon to wear them.

Why Mean Girls went to the State of the Union address

From a style perspective, the State of the Union address in Washington DC is usually a drab affair. However, a group of female senators dressed like the cast of Mean Girls let their outfits do the talking while Barack Obama was at the lectern.
Among the sea of grey, blue and black suits were five female politicians – all democrats in their second term, just like Obama – sitting together wearing pink suits.
It was a powerful statement and not the "On Wednesdays we wear pink" kind, as the women all synced up outfits to not only celebrate women in power but to also show the lack of gender equality in the House of Representatives.
Cheri Bustos from Illinois, Julia Brownley from California, Lois Frankel from Florida, Katherine Clark from Massachusetts and Ann McLane Kuster from New Hampshire posed for photos in their blush ensembles before posting the image and blasting out their message on Twitter.
"Sophomores in pink-we need more women in Congress," Bustos said.
"Wearing pink at State of the Union to celebrate over 100 women in Congress! We need to elect more," Kuster posted.
"Wearing pink to #SOTU because need more women in Congress!" Brownley wrote.
In the US there are 403 men in congress and 104 women.
Comparatively in Australia there are 150 members of the House of Representatives, 37 of them are female.
Meanwhile, Michelle Obama made a sartorial statement of her own, either accidently or subliminally.
The first lady wore a tweed Michael Kors skirt suit featuring an off-the-shoulder jacket with exposed zip and knee length skirt. Fans of The Good Wife would have recognised the look because Julianna Margulies' character Alicia Florrick – a fellow lawyer from Chicago – wore the same ensemble in a recent episode.
Prior to his address, Mr Obama's assistant and senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer caused a stir on social media by suggesting POTUS was bringing his infamous tan suit out of retirement for one of the most important speaking engagements of his presidency.
He, much to the relief of the American public, instead took a leaf out of Tony Abbott's style handbook and donned a navy suit with ice blue tie.

Kate Middleton Wore Another Pale Blue Coat

Kate Middleton Wore Another Pale Blue Coat, So Cue The ‘Blue For A Boy’ Baby Speculation
Kate Middleton attended the opening of the Kensington Aldridge Academy and wore a pretty pale blue coat. It was chic. It was such a beautiful color. It was winter weather and slush be damned. It was also her second time wearing a powder blue coat in recent months, so get ready for the “is she wearing blue because she’s having a boy?” baby theories. Sample: “Pregnant Kate Middleton Hints At Baby’s Sex In Blue Coat.”
In November, Kate wore a Matthew Williamson coat in a similar shade of blue to visit the Pembroke Refinery in Wales. At the time, some perceptive royal watchers speculated that the coat might hint at the baby’s gender, while others thought Kate upped her maternity style game, and she was experimenting with bright jackets. For her recent outing, she wore the £195 Natasha coat from Seraphine, a stylish maternity label. Of course the pale blue coat sold out immediately, like everything in Kate’s classic-but-never-boring wardrobe does.
Kate doesn’t just love a pale blue coat. Who could forget that sexy pale blue Jenny Packham dress she wore to an event at the Natural History Museum. Everyone was too focused on her amazing legs and playing “spot the little baby bump” to think whether it may-or-may-not be a clue about the second royal baby’s gender.
Do you think Kate if trying to hint at her second’s child sex (and subtly prepare people for the disappointment that she’s not having a girl), or do you think this shade of blue might be her new favorite color? Her matching navy clutch and heels could support both arguments.
We only have a few more months until the new addition to the royal family is born, so start placing your bets on gender, names, looks, and whatever you can think of, now.

Lisa Rinna Wore the Same Dress She Rocked In 2005

Lisa Rinna Wore the Same Dress She Rocked In 2005

Lisa Rinna recycles her outfits!
The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star joined her husband, Harry Hamlin, at the HBO bash after the Golden Globes, wearing the same dress she wore a decade ago.
Some have said it's tough to determine which photo of the 51-year-old is from 2005, though Rinna has yet to weigh in. But she has long been open about her aging secrets.
"Before a day of filming, I love to treat myself to an at-home facial [from esthetician Renee Rouleau]," she told Us Weekly last year. "I use her Triple Berry Smoothing Peel, followed by either the Energizing Cleansing Masque, when my skin feels oily, or the Bio Calm Repair Masque, when I need moisture."
She also hits the gym regularly, having told People that she prefers mixing spinning and yoga. Her diet is also pretty clean.
“I tend to call myself a dirty vegan. I’m mostly plant-based, but if I do need to eat some meat, I’ll have it," she told the magazine. “I think you have to listen to your body.”

Red Carpet Brow Wow

Golden Globes Beauty: Red Carpet Brow Wow
Bold brows are here to stay, it seems, as demonstrated by Keira Knightley, Lorde and Taylor Schilling who were among the handful of stars sporting thick face-framers on the Golden Globes red carpet.
"[Strong brows] are something we love for [Taylor Schilling], because she naturally has them,” says makeup maven Tina Turnbow, who accentuated the Orange is the New Black star’s striking features using NARS’ Brow Gel and Brow Perfector. “The look frames her eyes so beautifully, I think and gives balance to the face. I didn't extend the brows — that’s what keeps it more modern too. I love taking what someone has naturally and playing with that."
Meanwhile, eyebrow guru Kristie Streicher crafted her signature brows for Into The Woods actress Emily Blunt, whose arches popped against her minimal makeup look (created by Streicher’s sister Jenn, no less). Using a darker custom color on the brow tail and ends, Streicher then combed it through to balance the brows out. Next, she tweezed all of the fine, blonde “downy” hairs on underside of the best actress nominee’s brows. To complete the look, Streicher brushed hairs up with a strong-hold brow gel to lift hairs— which softens the eyebrow lines and creates a feathered look.
Chanel artist Rachel Goodwin also followed suit, giving Emma Stone an on-trend brow to match her sparkly jumpsuit. “I filled in her eyebrows with Chanel’s Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil and combed her brows up with gel,” explains Goodwin. “I wanted her brows to frame the eyes and to appear slightly thicker.”

How Amazing Hilary Duff Looks In This Solange-Inspired Outfit

I don’t know about you guys but I’m still not over how amazing Solange Knowles’ wedding was. Her hair and epic jumpsuits will probably (okay, definitely) be etched into my mind forever. And apparently I’m not the only one who feels that way.I think it’s pretty safe to say that Solange has made wearing white jumpsuits in winter a thing. First Miley Cyrus shows up to a red carpet looking uncharacteristically covered up in an amazing white suit and cape. And now Hilary Duff wore one while promoting her new show Younger yesterday.
If anyone ever doubted that her Lizzy Mcguire days are far, far behind her, they need look no further than the outfit she wore to the Television Critics Association panel. As BeyoncĂ© might put it, Hilary’s officially a grown woman and she can do whatever she wants, including looking like a total babe in a jumpsuit that Bey’s sister would totally approve of.
Her outfit was so cute that anyone could tell that she looked amazing even though she was sitting down the entire time. Unlike Miley’s jumpsuit, Hilary’s appeared to be strapless and skintight. She styled it (like a boss) with a pale pink jacket, gold jewelry and a pair of tan and metallic pumps.
If Hilary is trying to let everyone know that she’s officially a grown up television star, I think her sophisticated sense of style and new show are the right ways to do that. According to TVLand.com, she’ll be playing a character named Kelsey on Younger, a show that’s being produced and directed by the creator of Sex and the City. The show is set to premiere on TV Land in March.
Here’s to hoping that Hilary’s new show takes off and that she gives us even more amazing outfits in 2015.

Amy Adams Has a Penchant for Blue

During Wednesday evening's People's Choice Awards, Amy Adams hit the stage to present her Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice co-star Ben Affleck with the Choice Humanitarian Award for his work in the Congo. While we missed her on the red carpet, the Golden Globe-nominated actress still made us swoon over her onstage look.
Adams hit the stage in a cobalt blue Gucci cocktail dress with a crystal belt (above), keeping things minimal and sophisticated with her low ponytail and black peep-toe pumps. The more we looked at her ensemble, we realized: This isn't the first time the actress has opted for blue.
In November, Adams stepped out and stunned in a royal blue embroidered gown (also by Gucci) at LACMA Art + Film Gala. Before that, she chose a bright blue, body-hugging Victoria Beckham dress when she attended the Weinstein Company post-BAFTA party in February, looking as fine as can be. Another time she flaunted her figure in that particular shade? When she attended last year's Oscars in midnight blue strapless Gucci gown.
We don't blame her for consistently choosing this harmonious hue — it looks so damn good on her. Here's to hoping we see her in her favorite shade at Sunday's Globes.

Flaunting their game

Washboard abs was the theme for the evening. The annual fashion show, as part of Aircel Chennai Open’s Performax launch party, saw a few tennis players double up as models. While some of them got their gait right, the others treaded like they suspected explosives beneath their feet. Nicholas Monroe and Peter Torebko braved stage fright and walked with dainty models. The lobby of the Hyatt Regency was transformed into a gallery and on the ramp were dainty models showcasing collections by Reliance Trends. They were impeccably styled by Carol Gracias, who made even the most plain outfit look tres chic.
The show, choreographed by Sunil Menon, started off on a dramatic note with the showstopper, Shriya Saran, making a brief appearance appearing from below the stairs before disappearing backstage. The other models then took to the stage, in an Indian-wear, spring collection inspired by ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Jaipur pottery, comprising printed kurtis, crop tops, skirts and harem pants. The showstopper emerged again in a pristine white anarkali and a red bandana.
Chennai Open celebrates its 20 edition this year. The city has seen constant change in these two decades but this series has been a steady fixture here. After all, nippy evenings in Chennai are best associated with watching a good game of tennis at the SDAT Tennis Stadium. Vijay Amritraj, the Master of Ceremonies for the evening’s proceedings, opened with a string of questions to show just how much things have changed over the years. “What was the price of petrol 20 years back? Who was the top player 20 years ago? What was the price of tomatoes back then?” he asked the full house. The answers are as follows: Rs. 21; Pete Sampras; and tomatoes would set you back by Rs. 6-7 a kilo.
The next round showcased casual wear in vivid, summery shades. Shimmery capris, lace-back tops, short skirts, and floral-printed tops were part of the collection. This round also had Somdev Devvarman and Feliciano Lopez walking the ramp. Devvarman had the air of someone who had done this before. He paraded about nonchalantly in a pair of cargos, a khaki shirt and hat teamed with bluish-green chappals. Feliciano Lopez wore a pair of golf shorts, an open-buttoned shirt and hat.
The finale had the models sashay about in party wear. In monochromes, the outfits had fitted and flared silhouettes, with the hemline varying from really short to knee-grazing. Fitted cocktail pants too made it to the collection. Shriya Saran made an appearance again, this time in an all-black, over-the-top, shiny ensemble, with a cape that could have well been left aside.
After the fashion show, the event continued with Lopez playing bartender for the evening at the Bols official party by the poolside. Leander Paes, Roberto Bautista Agut, and David Goffin were present at the shindig, which took place at three different venues within the hotel, with excited fans managing photographs and brief conversations with the players.

Fishing for fashion icons

Jabong is all set to host the second season of Jabong Online Fashion Week, an initiative to provide a platform for budding talents in various fields like designing, modelling, hairstyling, make-up and fashion photography. The jury, responsible for training the winners — those chosen to showcase their work in the fashion week — consists of Nandini Bhalla, Noyonika Chatterjee, Varun Bahl, Vidya Tikari, Lubna Adams and Colston Julian.
Set on the breathtaking lawns of Dusit Devarana, New Delhi, the press launch saw the gorgeous Sushmita Sen grace the occasion with her charismatic personality, epitome of a diva that she is. “There is immense potential and immense talent in our country. We do not have a shortage of talent in a nation like ours. A diamond always remains a diamond. It has to be polished to give it facets and has to be given the right platform. This jury consists of legends that I go back in time with. I believe, an initiative like this is truly amazing as, once the winners grow and accomplish themselves, the jury becomes a part of their resume forever. It is definitely a wonderful place to be and I congratulate all the winners,” said the former Miss Universe.
Fashion designer Varun Bahl has an important role to play as the Online Fashion Week is all about the clothes. “I think we all here are looking for the same things — originality, passion, attention to detail. And seeing the online shopping catch up so soon, this is definitely a great platform. I am very excited about the great pool of talent we will be coming across,” he said.
Talking of the initiative, that calls itself “India’s first online shop-able fashion week”, Praveen Sinha, MD and Founder, Jabong.com shared his objectives. “The idea and intent of the online fashion week is very similar to what talent hunt did to the music industry. We wanted to create a similar platform and looking at last year’s success, we were able to produce some very good fashion entrepreneurs. We let the winners carve a profession out of their creative talents. We have introduced some exclusive international brands and at the same time encouraged a lot of fashion talent within the country, who we think have a global appeal,” he said.
