Kate Middleton attended the opening of the Kensington Aldridge Academy and wore a pretty pale blue coat. It was chic. It was such a beautiful color. It was winter weather and slush be damned. It was also her second time wearing a powder blue coat in recent months, so get ready for the “is she wearing blue because she’s having a boy?” baby theories. In November, Kate wore a Matthew Williamson coat in a similar shade of blue to visit the Pembroke Refinery in Wales. At the time, some perceptive royal watchers speculated that the coat might hint at the baby’s gender, while others thought Kate upped her maternity style game, and she was experimenting with bright jackets. For her recent outing, she wore the £195 Natasha coat from Seraphine, a stylish maternity label. Of course the pale blue coat sold out immediately, like everything in Kate’s classic-but-never-boring wardrobe does.
Kate doesn’t just love a pale blue coat. Who could forget that sexy pale blue Jenny Packham dress she wore to an event at the Natural History Museum. Everyone was too focused on her amazing legs and playing “spot the little baby bump” to think whether it may-or-may-not be a clue about the second royal baby’s gender.

Bold brows are here to stay, it seems, as demonstrated by Keira Knightley, Lorde and Taylor Schilling who were among the handful of stars sporting thick face-framers on the Golden Globes red carpet.
"[Strong brows] are something we love for [Taylor Schilling], because she naturally has them,” says makeup maven Tina Turnbow, who accentuated the Orange is the New Black star’s striking features using NARS’ Brow Gel and Brow Perfector. “The look frames her eyes so beautifully, I think and gives balance to the face. I didn't extend the brows — that’s what keeps it more modern too. I love taking what someone has naturally and playing with that."
Meanwhile, eyebrow guru Kristie Streicher crafted her signature brows for Into The Woods actress Emily Blunt, whose arches popped against her minimal makeup look (created by Streicher’s sister Jenn, no less). Using a darker custom color on the brow tail and ends, Streicher then combed it through to balance the brows out. Next, she tweezed all of the fine, blonde “downy” hairs on underside of the best actress nominee’s brows. To complete the look, Streicher brushed hairs up with a strong-hold brow gel to lift hairs— which softens the eyebrow lines and creates a feathered look.
Chanel artist Rachel Goodwin also followed suit, giving Emma Stone an on-trend brow to match her sparkly jumpsuit. “I filled in her eyebrows with Chanel’s Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil and combed her brows up with gel,” explains Goodwin. “I wanted her brows to frame the eyes and to appear slightly thicker.”

Jabong is all set to host the second season of Jabong Online Fashion Week, an initiative to provide a platform for budding talents in various fields like designing, modelling, hairstyling, make-up and fashion photography. The jury, responsible for training the winners — those chosen to showcase their work in the fashion week — consists of Nandini Bhalla, Noyonika Chatterjee, Varun Bahl, Vidya Tikari, Lubna Adams and Colston Julian.
Set on the breathtaking lawns of Dusit Devarana, New Delhi, the press launch saw the gorgeous Sushmita Sen grace the occasion with her charismatic personality, epitome of a diva that she is. “There is immense potential and immense talent in our country. We do not have a shortage of talent in a nation like ours. A diamond always remains a diamond. It has to be polished to give it facets and has to be given the right platform. This jury consists of legends that I go back in time with. I believe, an initiative like this is truly amazing as, once the winners grow and accomplish themselves, the jury becomes a part of their resume forever. It is definitely a wonderful place to be and I congratulate all the winners,” said the former Miss Universe.
Fashion designer Varun Bahl has an important role to play as the Online Fashion Week is all about the clothes. “I think we all here are looking for the same things — originality, passion, attention to detail. And seeing the online shopping catch up so soon, this is definitely a great platform. I am very excited about the great pool of talent we will be coming across,” he said.
Talking of the initiative, that calls itself “India’s first online shop-able fashion week”, Praveen Sinha, MD and Founder, Jabong.com shared his objectives. “The idea and intent of the online fashion week is very similar to what talent hunt did to the music industry. We wanted to create a similar platform and looking at last year’s success, we were able to produce some very good fashion entrepreneurs. We let the winners carve a profession out of their creative talents. We have introduced some exclusive international brands and at the same time encouraged a lot of fashion talent within the country, who we think have a global appeal,” he said.

Paris Fashion Week 2014: Sacai's hybrid power

A hybrid moto-meets-Mongolian lamb jacket. A gray flannel skirt with pleats spliced with chiffon. A blazer cross-pollinated with an electric blue fisherman's knit.

For women who want classic clothes with a kick, designer Chitose Abe's Sacai label is becoming a go-to.

Her design aesthetic might be described as a softer, sportier spin on Japanese deconstruction. And her collections just keep getting better and better.

Her fall 2014 outing shown Monday at Paris Fashion Week was full of sportswear separates that were as interesting to look at from the back as from the front, including an orange menswear check wrap skirt with a lace back panel, and a blue knit sweater dress with a silk print peeking out from the skirt pleats.

It's that element of surprise that makes Sacai's collections so much fun, the moment when you discover an emerald green burnout velvet blouse also has a cable knit sweater side, and a Peruvian blanket coat with the sleek leather lapel of a biker jacket.

Charming-looking mixed tartan and scarf print dresses were a respite from the heavy wools and tweeds, and proved that there is more to Sacai than mixed parts.

The collection was vibrant and challenging but also utterly grounded in wearability. No wonder Abe's star is rising.

Today, Loblaw Companies Limited announced that it will expand Joe Fresh to 23 countries worldwide by way of partnership deals with three separate international firms. Fawaz A. Alhokair & Co., Retail Arabia International and Origin & Co., Ltd., will help bring Canada’s largest brand to Europe, the Middle East and Asia respectively. Not too shabby for a brand that started in the grocery aisles, eh? (We’ll just keep using that one forever.)

“These first international agreements signify an important milestone for Joe Fresh as we build on the strong foundation we’ve established at home in Canada. We continue to evolve the brand forward and I’m thrilled to see Joe Fresh grow into a global brand, developing on the success we have had in the United States since launching there in 2011,” says Joe Fresh creative director Joe Mimran via press release. BAFTAs 2014: Our top 5 best dressed on the red carpet

While the rest of us were glued to the screens watching the Olympics and enjoying our long weekend, our friends across the pond were in a star-studded tizzy. The BAFTAs were held on Sunday night at the Royal Opera House in London and the place was lit up with major star-wattage.

Lupita Nyong’o, despite losing out Best Supporting Actress to an absent-Jennifer Lawrence, won the red carpet last night in a stunning Christian Dior Couture gown. The lively green colour was perfectly set off against her skin and gold accessories, and was topped with a flash of magenta lipstick. Despite last week’s more-than-unfortunate outfit, Uma Thurman proved she’s still got it in a breathtaking navy-blue Atelier Versace strapless column dress and diamond choker. With such a striking silhouette, there was no need to clutter it with accessories and frills—Uma is back in our good books with this one. Angelina Jolie hasn’t been on many red carpets of late, but when she turns up, you know it’s going to be good. Wearing a Saint Laurent tux and perfectly matched with hubby and nominee Brad Pit, Jolie looked every bit the bombshell she is with a seductively undone bowtie and wavy locks pushed to one side.

Also topping the list is Amy Adams in a sheer panelled column dress by Victoria Beckham, perfectly fitted and streamlined in typical VB fashion. Cate Blanchett continued to dazzle in a black and silver gown from Alexander McQueen and statement Chopard diamond necklace that seems so very Cate. All of this red carpet fuss has gotten us riled up for the Academy Awards, just under two weeks away. The countdown is officially on!

All eyes on Topshop Unique, from Kendall Jenner to Kate Moss

What we love about Topshop is that this isn’t one of those elitist fashion week shows that only the Anna Wintours and Susie Bubbles of this world have access to. This season, shoppers at the brand’s Oxford Circus flagship were invited to pop on a headset which allowed them to be transported to the virtual front row.

And what a front row. Sitting ringside in the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern were model of the moment Kendall Jenner, Foxes, Poppy Delevingne, Lottie Moss, Kate Moss, Sir Philip Green and, of course, Susie Bubble and Anna Wintour.

But what we were all there to see, whether virtually, first-hand, or via live stream, were the clothes – clothes that, unlike the rest of fashion week produce (Whistles aside perhaps), we mere mortals may have a chance of wearing this autumn.

The only problem is, you’re going to want to wear all of it. From the cobalt blue belted blanket coat, layered leather and lace skirts and dove grey ankle boot mules (worn with socks, a huge look for AW14), to the oversized multi-coloured patchwork faux-fur, the camel culottes, the quilted bombers and the butter yellow short sleeved jacket. Get saving now.

There was a definite 70s student feel about the collection with the over-the-knee suede boots, a peacock embellished yellow smock (worn by the stunning Jourdan Dunn), patchwork sheepskin gilets, skater skirts and a grey pinafore dress.

The colour palette was a fairly muted autumnal one with cobalt blues, soft greys, muddy greens and tawny yellows.

And aside from some daring see through appliqué tops for evening, a couple of little black dresses and some cute short shorts, this was all about luxurious daywear. The blanket coats, chunky knits, roll-necks and long flared skirts were all terribly (terrible for our bank balance) wearable.

In the cavernous Tate Modern hall, to the stomping soundtrack of Beyonce’s Run the World (Girls), the show finale was enough to make every watching high street shopper’s heart soar.
 
And was that the sound of girls stampeding to the tills come autumn we heard?

Isabelle Armstrong couture bridal sets trunk show at Saks

Isabelle Armstrong is a new player in the field of bridal couture. The company launched in October, offering fine materials (think French lace and Italian silks) and detailed workmanship.

The luxury line, headquartered in New York, is coming to California this week, with a trunk show at Saks Beverly Hills planned from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

The trunk show will be in the bridal salon at Saks, 9600 Wilshire Blvd.

We’re only a few days into the circus that’s Fashion Month and there’s already some exceptional front row celebrity watching to be had. Lelly Rowland and Hailee Steinfeld were two of the many celebrities attending the New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 shows this past weekend, sitting front row at Public School and Prabal Gurung, respectively. Both stars stepped out in black and white ensembles that borrowed some inspiration from the southwest, a trend that Chanel just may have helped start with their Dallas show.
Kelly Rowland debuted a new bob at the Public School Fall 2014 show—which included the label’s first womenswear collection—and while we were certainly getting some throwback Destiny’s Child vibes, we couldn’t look past her leather ensemble. The Tom Ford Fall 2013 top certainly helped Rowland tap into her Texas roots, as it incorporated some serious Southern-style fringe-work on the sleeves and hem. Rowland finished her look off with a white KTZ undershirt splashed with foreign text on the hem and thigh-high leather Christian Louboutin boots. The R&B songstress was definitely having a rock star moment with her ensemble.

Hailee Steinfeld took time to support designer pal Prabal Gurung at his Himalayas-inspired Fall 2014 show. While Prabal’s runway was filled with rich shades of orange and reds, Steinfeld opted for a polished monochromatic knit skirt ensemble paired with an oversized black coat and fedora. With brogue boots that screamed downtown cool, black smoky eye makeup and a fedora that was giving us some major True Grit vibes, Steinfeld certainly knows how to accessorize during the frigid New York winter.

They have had some highs (the Armani Privé dress Hathaway wore as a 2009 Best Actress Oscar nominee); they have had some lows (the suggestive nipple Prada dress the star wore to collect her 2013 Best Supporting Actress Oscar in), but Anne Hathaway and stylist Rachel Zoe are no more.

"Rachel and Anne aren't currently working together. Anne is just trying out something new for the time being,"

'Something new' happens to be rival stylist to the stars Penny Lovell, who boasts the likes of Rose Byrne and Bella Heathcote on her books.
Sundance Festival was the couple's first public debut, where Anne modelled a hunter green trouser suit with feather lapel embellishment. The end result was boy scout hits film festival, with a plain black J Brand camisole being the outfit's only saving grace.

Though the Les Misérables star is partial to androgynous fashion - her off-duty wear is a sober cocktail of denim, jersey basics and beanies - we were enjoying Hathaway's flirtation with the pastel shades and pretty dresses that suited her pale pallor and pixie crop perfectly. If Anne has her way with Lovell this prim 'do could soon turn punky with a host of manly fashion to accompany it.

Spring 2014 Couture Report: The top 5 trends on the rise in Paris

All it took was three taps on her Cartier watch in the direction of a publicist for Vogue’s Anna Wintour to get the Giambattista Valli show rolling the other night. There’s no time to waste at Spring 2014 Couture Week in Paris with so much to see—from Louis Vuitton’s new trunk-inspired watches to Roger Vivier’s limited edition shoes with diamante “disco ball” heels.

The elevated athlete trend, which came on strong during the Spring 2014 ready-to-wear season, has popped up at the couture level, most notably in lace, python, pearl and floral beaded sneakers at Chanel and Christian Dior. It’s symbolic of a new ease and youthfulness wafting through fashion at all levels.

Here are some other trends coming out of Spring 2014 Couture Week in Paris

Haute moto

Gold-leaf lapels at Alexandre Vauthier, leather bits sewn on georgette at Atelier Versace, and crystal, snake and feathered vests and jackets at Bouchra Jarrar, who is the first woman named to the official couture calendar in 30 years.

Legs

Split and fringe-y macramé skirts at Alexandre Vauthier, curved hems at Giambattista Valli, sheer ball skirts at Armani Privé.

Layering

Peekaboo veils and cutouts at Christian Dior, jackets hovering over corseted waists at Chanel, draping over body con beading at Atelier Versace, organza layers with circles in varying degrees of sheerness at Vionnet.

Hip action

Bows and skirty ruffles at Giambattista Valli, fringed swags at Ulyana Sergeenko, ruched satin minis at Alexandre Vauthier, and below the waist embroidery at Schiaparelli which is back in the couture business after 60 years.

Red Carpet: The best of the Producers Guild Awards

We haven’t even crossed the Grammys mark yet and the red-carpet hits just keep on coming.

At Sunday night’s Producers Guild of America Awards, I noticed a few things I really liked, starting with the always impeccable "Homeland" star Claire Danes in a pale blue silk metallic Dior cocktail sheath with a twist-front bodice. This dress is perfection, sweet and sultry in one, and I love the icy blue color.

After the floral-embellished turquoise Gucci gown she wore to the SAG Awards on Saturday night, "12 Years A Slave" actress Lupita Nyong’o returned to a more streamlined and modern silhouette, with a terra-cotta-colored, asymmetrical, one-shoulder Stella McCartney dress.

But both women may have been outshined by Helen Mirren. The 68-year-old, who has been a star this awards show season, wore a sparkly nude gown by Elie Saab that had serious sex appeal.

In the jewelry department, "Veep" actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus accessorized her Max Mara little black dress with some insanely gorgeous earrings by L.A.-based designer Irene Neuwirth.

Then there was "Dallas Buyers Club" actor Jared Leto. It’s sure been fun to watch him this awards show season, from the man bun to Sunday night’s cool-looking Dior Homme black wool kimono-style shawl collar suit and clerical-looking white cotton shirt with inverted collar.

I’m glad to see that it’s not just the ladies who are bringing it.

Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams fashion champs at Critics' Choice Awards

Thursday was a busy day for movie mavens.

Stars gathered for the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, and some of the actors who won there also were winners when it came to fashion — among them Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams, Lupita Nyong'o and Jared Leto, Los Angeles Times fashion critic Booth Moore says.
Earlier in the day, film and fashion intersected in the Oscar nominations for costume design. The academy gave a nod to period dramas, our Adam Tschorn reports.

"American Hustle" and "Gravity" led the pack in Oscar nominations in a season when the academy is noting a generational shift, writes film critic Kenneth Turan.

Golden Globes 2014: Cooper, McConaughey among best-dressed men

The eternal challenge -- at least for guys who play by the rules of the red carpet -- is how to be sartorial standouts in a sea of tuxedos. The opening salvo in the awards show derby, Sunday night's Golden Globes, found a few fellows standing head and shoulders above the rest. Among those who managed to show the penguin suit who's boss:

Bradley Cooper

We can’t really put our finger on what made Cooper the cream of the tuxedo-clad crop. Maybe it was because the last time we saw him he was on the big screen in “American Hustle” in full so-bad-it’s-good ‘70s regalia. Or perhaps it's because it wasn't any one thing but every little thing he got right, from the fit of the jacket to the amount of shirtsleeve showing at the cuff. Of course the black, peak-lapel Tom Ford tuxedo (Cooper actually wore head-to-toe TF) didn’t hurt matters any. Classic. Timeless. Perfection.

Matthew McConaughey

It takes some serious swagger to pull off a Dolce & Gabbana three-piece, one-button, peak-lapel tuxedo -- in forest green velvet no less. But McConaughey showed he had that in spades Sunday night. When he took to the stage to accept his award for actor in a drama, McConaughey came across as smooth and unruffled as the texture of his tux.

Mark Ruffalo

Ruffalo, one of the award ceremony's presenters, was a perfect example of how a guy can stand out from the crowd without sticking out like a sore thumb, choosing a John Varvatos collection three-piece, two-button, peak-lapel tuxedo in brown and gray with a broken-weave texture so subtle you almost don't notice it at first. (Compare that with Jim Carrey's tone-on-tone-on-tone Varvatos ensemble that made it look like the comedian was wearing a tuxedo folded out of a single sheet of black origami paper.)

Facial hair follies

As a facial-hair aficionado, I'm always intrigued by what the menfolk on the awards-show circuit choose to do when it comes to putting their best face forward (my colleague Melissa Magsaysay has already mused on the manifestation of the "man bun"). And while it's hard to tell what's a result of being groomed for an upcoming role (literally) or simply in-between jobs laissez-faire, there was some noteworthy facial fuzz in evidence including Leonardo Dicaprio (sporting a mouth beard), Michael Douglas (part pirate beard, part bristle-cone pine) and Chris Pine, whose beard was a paragon of pogonic perfection.
But there was something about Christoph Waltz's mustache that made all other beards and mustaches in the room pale in comparison. The two-time Golden Globe winner, who presented the man-bunned Jared Leto with his Golden Globe for supporting actor, was kitted out in a Prada kid mohair tuxedo accessorized with a strip of lip spinach that stretched to the corners of his mouth where they turned down ever so slightly.
We don’t know (and frankly don’t care) if it's for a new role, to cover a cold sore or merely grooming whimsy that gave rise to the 'stache but it adds a dash of panache -- not to mention a certain vaudevillian flair -- to the Austrian actor.

It's the kind of mustache that could arm-wrestle the beard belonging to Dos Equis' "most interesting man in the world" and win handily.

And it gets my vote for tonsorial flourish of the night.

5 Celebrity-Inspired New Year's Fashion Resolutions I'm Making in 2014

Happy 2014, everybody! What's on your New Year's resolutions list this this time around? Health, happiness, getting into better financial shape? Yup, me too.

Also on my list? A fresh new outlook on dressing. I've been in a dress-tights-boots phase for, well, OK, forever (I don't even think I'm allowed to call it a "phase" anymore)—so come 2014, I'm hoping to shake things up a bit with new perspective as well as style tips culled from the closets of some of my favorite celebrities.

Check out five of my celeb-inspired New Year's fashion resolutions. Wish me luck!

1. I resolve to take a different angle on head-to-toe black a la Miranda Kerr.

OK, I've worn head-to-toe black pretty much ever since I was 13-years-old. And no matter how much you style it up—tailored Belgian tuxedo jackets, draped Rick Owens cardis, skinny retro high-waisted jeans from Levi's—the fact is, I've always worn all-black as a way of streamlining my getting-ready regimen and as an easy way tonot get noticed. But what if I took a tip from Miranda Kerr's playbook and dressed in all black—to get noticed? Hm. Now there's a thought.

2. I resolve to think pink—or at least try to incorporate pink back into my wardrobe this spring, likeOlivia Palermo.

When I was a teenager, I'd conservatively estimate that about 75 percent of my wardrobe was fuchsia—i.e. hot pink. It was the early-'90s, you guys. And I don't think I've intentionally bought and worn pink since—after that semi-scarring decade. But this spring, bold pink is back in fashion—and I think I'm ready to take the plunge again. Good news is that there was a reason I liked pink as a 14-year-old—find the right shade and wearing pink makes your complexion glow.

3. I resolve to buy investment pieces—and wear them over and over again, just like Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton.

Every year, I vow to spend less on fast, throwaway, trendy fashion—and more on good, long-lasting pieces that I can build my wardrobe around year after year. But besides a heaping of black cashmere sweaters, tailored dresses, and a closetful of sharply tailored jackets and coats, I'd never thought it possible to find pretty and timeless investment pieces. I'll look harder this year, because if Kate Middleton can wear the same dress two years in a row, gosh darn it, so can I.

4. I resolve to dress down, the Cara Delevingne way.

What's so great about Cara Delevingne's style is that it's playful, unique, totally fun and colorful—and also exists somewhere between dressed-up and totally dialed-down. A look like this one here can take you from, say, a day at a theme park (OK, different shoes for the theme park) to dinner at a trendy restaurant. Because it's so fierce.

5. I resolve to strive for Beyonce-levels of style chameleon.

Beyonce Beyonce Beyonce. She's a mom, she's a wife, she's a superstar who unleashed a surprise album on the world complete with 17 music videos—and she looks totally, completely, wildly different in every single one. I bow down to your chameleon highness, Queen Bey. Next year, I'm resolving to play around more with my own style.

Scots fashion guru slams plus-sized mannequin plan

Founder of the Scottish Fashion Awards, Tess Hartmann, has rubbished claims the psychological state of consumers now lies in the hands of retailers.

Britain’s equality minister, Jo Swinson, has been asking stores to use plus-size and petite clothes models to promote a positive body image for women.

In November, retail giant Debenhams became the first department store to use size 16 display models. Other stores have said they may follow to more reflect changing body shapes.

The average UK women’s dress size has grown from a 12 to a 16 in little more than a decade, but many stores still use size ten models to show off their clothes.
But now fashion guru Ms Hartmann says people need to take more responsibility for their lifestyle and diet choices.Dr Hartmann said: “Enough of this ridiculous blame culture. Being bigger, voluptuous, large, whatever word you like to use, is a lifestyle choice.
“Our bad diets, lack of exercise and blame culture are to blame.


“So instead of wasting ­taxpayers’ money on sensationalist campaigns that are ­completely futile, why not direct our efforts towards poverty-stricken areas of Scotland, where bad diets are the norm?”

Kate Middleton’s Christmas Outfit

Despite the frigid temperatures Kate Middleton was all smiles as she stepped out on Dec. 25 and showed off two chic outerwear looks as she stepped out on the Queen’s private estate. First we saw the Duchess in a cream coat and she stylishly layered a printed, plaid scarf over the ensemble while greeting the Queen. Not only was the outfit appropriate for the cold day, but it looked fantastic on Kate — she’s always so perfectly put together!

While we were a fan of her cream overcoat it wasn’t long before she shed the get-up and revealed a green and navy tartan coat dress as she made her way into St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk, England while walking hand in hand with her hubby. The ensemble, by Alexander McQueen, extended to the new mother’s knee. We couldn’t think of a better Christmas look — and it wasn’t the first time she showed it off!

Kate first wore the ensemble in November 2012 when she visited her old primary school, St. Andrew’s in Pangbourne, where she played hocked with pupils while dressed in the pretty plaid look. While no one knew it at the time, the Duchess was actually in the early stages of her pregnancy — and just days later she was rushed to the hospital with morning sickness!


On this occasion she paired it with a matching green Gina Foster hat, (which was topped with a bow),and rocked black, knee-high suede boots and a pair of black gloves. The hat and boots definitely gave the festive get-up a more formal vibe, and we love the way she recycled the coat dress!
